BLUE IN QUEENS

eShakti top (code: "highstitchvoices" for 10% off storewide), Zara shorts and shoes, vidakush necklace

I don't know what it is about the color blue, but it's my favorite color this season other than the usual neutrals. I've been reading Maggie Nelson's beautiful book of poetry Bluets, and that may be partially why I keep on thinking an unnecessary, almost inane, amount about the color, but I've come to the consensus that I don't care if over half the population's favorite color is blue, because I love it, too. She writes on the color blue as a favorite color: "It is tempting to derive some kind of maturity narrative here: eventually we sober up and grow out of our rash love of intensity (i.e. red); eventually we learn to love more subtle things with more subtlety, etc., etc. But my love for blue has never felt to me like a maturing... for the fact is that one can maintain a chromophilic recklessness well into adulthood."

CHAMELEON IN CENTRAL PARK

American Apparel dress, Steve Madden boots

It's funny that a lot of my time here in New York thus far has consisted of some major park-hopping, and the juxtaposition of natural spaces within the city. I think that having left a lot of greenery in California, I've just been drawn to these little pockets of green. I am slightly obsessed with Prospect Park (despite the fact that it is a ways away from me) and the Hudson River Park/Pier 40 (which is, at the moment, within walking/running distance). What I love about the two aforementioned parks is that you don't feel like you are in New York necessarily and there are definitely less tourists than in Central Park. Thankfully, Central Park on the Upper West is less touristy as well (the place in the pictures), and has enough room for frolicking. The sun has been setting so late, and I've really been able to spend time until late evening inside of various parks.

NEW YORK THROUGH INSTAGRAM

As many of you may know, I am spending the entire summer in New York. These past two-and-a-half weeks have quite frighteningly flown by, and I'm most definitely afraid of not cherishing my time here as well as I can. Here are a few snippets of the enigmatic city through my phone that partially capture what I've been up to for the time being. Obviously, there has been a lot of food and coffee consumed. Let me know if any of you would like a guide of my favorites in the city at the end of my stay! Follow me on Instagram @highstitchedvoice if you want to keep up with a more timely account of my travels.

OLD MEETS NEW

KNT dress, Balenciaga boots, zeroUV sunnies

At the rooftop of The Commune Social a week or two ago: the perfect balance of old and new - the kind of juxtaposition I love in dressing as well, with worn in or vintage pieces paired with modern ones.

NEWPORT

It's done. I've finished my finals, moved out of my dorm, passed my driver's license test, and flown to Shanghai - life is good! In the meantime, the finality of not being in California for the next eight months is just settling in. I found these lost photos from early April, and am missing the quietness of Newport on a weekday. It's just so idyllic. I'll be in Shanghai for just a week, and then it's off to New York I go! Much love xx!

NOMADIC

Phraseology LA kimono, The Local Branch quartz necklace, Vida Kush crystal necklace, Jeffrey Campbell boots

Photos: collab. with Nino Panes

Despite my reluctance to develop an attachment to LA, as it doesn't happen to be a city that I identify with (as much as I do appreciate many parts of it), there are some things that are inherently a part of my lifestyle that will be more evident to me once I leave this summer (I won't be returning till next year). This includes but is not limited to a certain laid-back attitude and penchant for the nomadic, certain phrases and bits of language local to LA, an appreciation for canyons and deserts and succulents (cliche, but true), a love for raw vegan smoothies, but also an element of style that is echoed in this free-spirited kimono from Phraseology that I picked up at UNIQUE LA this past weekend.

UNIQUE LA was full of so many local artists and vendors selling handmade products and goods - ranging from soy candles to raw granola and chocolate to handmade chevron rings. The variety and cause of supporting local artists always makes the event a very fun one to attend and pick up knick-knacks from. The experience of meeting such talented and visionary artists was so worthwhile and reminds me of why I prefer not to shop at larger corporations. I will most definitely be going back next Spring. Suffice to say, wearing this kimono is so much fun to move in. I also picked up this electroplated quartz necklace from The Local Branch.

I shot this set of photos with one of my good friends from Berkeley, Nino (@senaponin), who came to visit for the weekend. It is guaranteed fun shooting and exploring with him and his excitable, passionate personality. Check out more of our shots on Instagram (@highstitchedvoice).

I hope you all have a lovely start to your week!

ICE CREAM & IVY

zeroUV sunglasses, Missguided sweater, Modern Vice boots, Proenza Schouler bag

With my second year here in California soon coming to a close, it's hard not to consider all the things I'll miss when I'm gone - I'll let you all know more once details are solidified. Hopefully I'll be seeing some of your faces in different cities.

THE DREAM IS ABOUT US

CAT footwear boots, Brandy sweater

I've been feeling the harsh light & white walls these days - who else just feels like watching the shadows stretch until summer starts? In honor of national poetry month, I've included one of my favorite poems above by Stefania Heim.
